Rolling the Dice
Senior Student: “Sir, if you don’t have kids, aren’t you worried about who’s going to take care of you when you’re old?”
Me: “Having kids is no guarantee of that.”
Her: “Don’t you want the possibility at least?”
Me: (Quietly.) “Look around this class. Imagine that if you had a child, it could be any one of them. Any one of them will be caring for you when you’re old. Would you roll the dice?”
She looks around.
Her: “I see what you’re saying.”
